Latest Updates from Our Project:

Profile Name Change Notice
over 2 years ago – Sat, Sep 18, 2021 at 05:39:28 PM

To long-standing backers of Evil Hat, I apologize for the up-to-15-other copies of this message you're going to see. We've asked Kickstarter to change our profile name to drop the "Fred Hicks /" part off the front of it, and they sound agreeable to it but want us to update every project with a notification and explanation of the change before they'll do it. The reasons for the change are (at least) threefold:

  • I'm often not the one actually running our Kickstarters these days; it's a team effort now and I'm only sometimes on that team
  • I'm not necessarily going to be at Evil Hat forever, so it'd be weird if Evil Hat's KS account made it look otherwise
  • The formatting of the profile name "Fred Hicks / Evil Hat Productions" means that every dang project has launched as Such-And-So by Fred Hicks / Evil Hat Productions, and... it's very rare that I'm actually the primary author (if author at all) on our projects here, so it reads pretty misleading (to me) to suggest that these wonderful games are "by" me. They're published by a company I founded, the company running our Kickstarters, so that's where the focus should be.

Wow, you got to the end of the list? You really are a dedicated fan! Fingers crossed — soon our profile name should be simply "Evil Hat Productions", and you too can experience the glorious mostly-irrelevant change as well.

Thank you as always for your support and attention.

Autumn Stretch Goal Update
over 4 years ago – Wed, Sep 25, 2019 at 03:58:15 PM

We've launched the Agon kickstarter today! Whenever we launch a new project, we like to make sure we're checking in with our other Kickstarters that aren't fully finished yet.

Since we last updated you, the text of all the stretch goals has been edited and revised until it stopped complaining and started cooperating like all good citizens should. (We're bundling all the stretches together in one PDF, so it will contain Paris Nouveau Corporate Catalog, The Second Fall and Other Stories, Invisible Hands: The Black Market, Beyond the Walls, and Safehouses and Hotspots.

That text has gone through a preliminary layout pass to help us identify our artwork needs to produce a finished PDF, and we've taken our list of artwork needs to Tazio Bettin to complete (Tazio has been the artist on several of our titles including Masters of Umdaar). Better yet, Tazio's finished pieces are starting to roll in, which brings us ever closer to the finish line.

So naturally we'd love to share a look at those pieces with you, which you'll find below. We'll update you again when we're ready to release the complete stretch goals PDF to our worthy and loyal backers. And thank you as always for your support!

Origins Award Nomination, Stretch Progress
almost 5 years ago – Wed, May 08, 2019 at 05:00:21 PM

Hi all! It's been a year since this campaign concluded, and I figured that's plenty reason to post an update on its own—thank you all for making this game possible!—but there are tidbits to share with you as well, so, bonus words commence.

I'll keep them brief, regardless. You never know who's listening in.

First up, some exciting news—Uprising was nominated for an Origins Award! The winner will be determined at Origins itself next month. Hope to see you (and your vote) in attendance there — we'll be a part of the Indie Press Revolution (IPR) booth, as always, so please do drop on by.

We also has some news about the stretch goals! All are written. Three of the four are edited and awaiting the completion of the fourth before moving forward to layout and art acquisition. The fourth (Safehouses & Hotspots) is in the middle of its editing-revision cycle right now. Once that's done we'll be "text complete" and can make sure to schedule our layout person to get a first-pass draft done so we can figure out what art-pieces we actually need to produce the final version. That's probably still a few more months of work, but having the text-work largely in the rear-view means we're significantly closer to completion. I think you'll especially enjoy Beyond the Walls, where we introduce a new city, a new variety of aesthetic oppression, and a new class of citizens (with playbooks).

Finally, in Fate-related news, we're currently two weeks into our Fate of Cthulhu kickstarter campaign. If you haven't peeked at it yet, know that this is not your typical take on the Mythos—it's more Aliens and Terminator than Shadow Over Innsmouth. Plus, time travel! We hope you'll join us over on the campaign, if you haven't already. And of course, you get an immediate look at the text-complete prototype PDF as soon as you back the project.

That's it for today's update. We hope you're continuing to enjoy Uprising, and thank you as always for your support!

Status Transmission February 2019
about 5 years ago – Wed, Feb 27, 2019 at 12:24:51 AM

Greetings Citoyens,

We don’t have much time. We’ve hacked the feed, but the government tracers will be on us soon. This is an alert that future transmissions are on their way, which will be sent to you using an old Portable Document Format (PDF) that we believe should make its way through the feed undetected. Here’s our current status:

  • Paris Nouveau Corporate Catalog - 75% Complete. Writing and editing complete. Layout and art development to follow once the entire packet is buffered into the feed.
  • Safehouses and Hotspots - 50% Complete. First draft due in March 2019. Ready for layout by April 2019.
  • The Second Fall and Other Stories - 75% Complete. Writing and editing complete. Layout and art development to follow once the entire packet is buffered into the feed.
  • Beyond the Walls - 40% Complete. First draft due in late March 2019. Ready for layout by April 2019.

(All components must be at 75% before we can move forward into layout and art acquisition.)

This message may have not made its way through the feed to every cell. We cannot predict which filters may have intercepted it, so please, if you see another member of the revolution, let them know, the truth is coming soon!

And thank you as always for your support.
